RGT18 Endophyte

Today, New Zealand’s farming environments demand novel endophytes as part of any commercial perennial ryegrass.
An endophyte is a type of fungus that lives naturally in the plant (present in the seed and at the base as it germinates and grows) and produces chemicals (alkaloids) that can ward off insects. However, some of these alkaloids can negatively affect animal performance. To address this, seed companies develop ‘novel endophytes’ – selecting strains that maximise the beneficial compounds which protect against pests and improve persistence, while minimising or eliminating the harmful ones that affect animals.

Our solution
Your endophyte choice should match the pest profile you face on your farm.
As part of NZPBRA (New Zealand Plant Breeding and Research Association), RGT18 underwent a range of testing protocols; a multiyear process including agronomic, insect, and animal safety trials. This rigorous process is essential for a new endophyte to gain industry recognition. In the most recent NFVT (National Forage Variety Trials) tables, RGT Hustle RGT18 ranked as a top-tier performer, highlighting the significant investment RAGT has made in both novel endophytes and genetic development.
